KOHALA COAST, Hawai'i – Biola broke away from the pack with a second-day score of 297 to move nine shots into the lead at the Pacific West Conference Women's Golf Championships at the Mauna Lani Golf Course on Tuesday.
The Eagles were nine shots better than anyone else on a day where the wind died down and so did the scores. Biola, who had a scant two-shot lead at the end of Monday, pushed that to nine (+39) ahead of Academy of Art (+48). Hawai'i Hilo is just one shot behind the Urban Knights in third (+49) followed by HPU (+50), Point Loma (+58), Dominican (+60) and Westmont (+74).
One more round of 18 holes remain on Wednesday, with a tee time of 7:30 a.m. (10:30 a.m. PT) for the seven women's teams.
Editor's Note: Vulcans first tee off is set for 8:30 a.m.
The winner of the tournament receives an automatic bid to the NCAA West Region tournament, May 6-8, in Stockton, California.
In the medalist chase, HPU's Shuiyn He remained in first. The sophomore fired a two-under par 70 and sits with a two-day score of +2. Two shots back of He is Hawai'i Hilo's Kiersten Saludares (+4), who shot a 71 on Tuesday. Also charging up the ladder was Biola's Brady Turnquist, who had the low round of the day at 69. She is now also only two shots back (+4).
Among others very much in striking distance are Dominican's Angelica Antonio (+6) and former champion Claire Shubin (+7). Both players shot 71 today. Shubin was the PacWest medalist in 2022.
