BAY AREA, California – The Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball team is on the road playing in the Route 92 Classic in Northern California hosted by Cal State East Bay and San Francisco State. The Vulcans opened Thursday afternoon with a 3-1 victory over Cal State East Bay (25-22, 25-23, 15-25, 25-12) before dropping Friday affairs to San Francisco State (22-25, 20-25, 15-25) and Lubbock Christian (25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-27, 11-15).
Chase Koepke made her presence known upfront with 14 kills (.370) — five of them in Set 2 — against the Pioneers. Kamryn Childs added eight kills (.389) and four blocks.
In Friday afternoon's tail end of a doubleheader, Koepke followed up with a career-high 15 kills (.333) and five blocks against the Lady Chaps. Hawai'i Hilo held stat advantages in aces (10-4) and blocks (14-1) but were out-dug by Lubbock Christian. Isabella Freeman contributed to nine of the team's 14 total blocks.
The Vulcans had the match nearly wrapped up with a 24-21 lead in Set 4 serving match point, but the Lady Chaps managed six of the next seven points to force the face-off frame before snatching victory from the jaws of defeat in the fifth set.
Earlier in the day, Hawai'i Hilo started with a straight-sets defeat to SFSU. Taylor Tullo tallied a game high of 16 digs.

Hawai'i Hilo moved to 5-4 overall (0-0 Pacific West Conference) with Cal State East Bay at 2-3 and San Francisco State at 3-2.
The Vulcans close out the Route 92 Classic on Saturday back on the east end of the Bay Area against Colorado State Pueblo at Cal State East Bay's Pioneer Gym. First serve is set for 10:30 a.m. (1:30 p.m. PT). No live video stream will be available.
The next home game is set for Thursday, Sept. 19 in the PacWest Conference opener against Academy of Art.
