HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Basketball fell to Cal Poly Pomona, 74-54, on Sunday afternoon to close the Southwest Airlines Big Island Invitational at the Vulcan Gymnasium.
The Broncos scored the first nine points coming out of halftime to extend their lead to 20 points, but the Vulcans fired back with a 14-1 run to whittle it back down to just a seven-point margin. From there, CPP managed to outscore UHH, 19-5, to push the distance back out to a 20-point gap.
Hawai'i Hilo shot .365 from the field with 4 of 23 (.174) on 3-pointers and 50 percent at the free throw line (12-24 FT).
Julio Montes II led the Vulcans with 14 points (3 3-pointers) and had three steals.

Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 2 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll, tying with Fresno Pacific. The Vulcans finished the 2024-25 regular season in a three-way tie at No. 4 in the conference standings and was one of six teams to qualify for the PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament, falling to defending champ Point Loma in the semifinal round. The 2025-26 PacWest Championships will be hosted by PLNU on March 5-7 in San Diego.
