HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball fell to Fresno Pacific twice on Saturday afternoon to start the Pacific West Conference season with an 0-4 record.
Vulcans pitchers cut the number of free passes to first base in half, giving up five walks in each game of the doubleheader but just one hit batsmen — pitchers combined for nine walks and nine hit-by-pitch in Friday's series-opening twinbill. Still, FPU managed to rack up 24 total hits.
Defensively, the Vulcans improved from their season-opening series against Sioux Falls where they committed 11 total errors, including six on opening day. The Vulcans had just one error against the Sunbirds.
At the plate, Hawai'i Hilo had just four hits in each of Saturday's contests.
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 0-4 in the PacWest (2-6 overall) as Fresno Pacific moved to a 4-4 conference record (9-6 overall).
