HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball continued its season-opening series by dropping the first of two doubleheaders to Sioux Falls on Saturday afternoon at the James "Jimmy" Correa Ballfield at Francis Wong Stadium.
The Vulcans moved to 0-3 as Sioux Falls (South Dakota) moved to 3-0.

GAME 1: SIOUX FALLS 10, HAWAI'I HILO 6
- The Cougars jumped ahead for an 8-0 lead at the break of the seventh inning before the Vulcans cut the deficit in half with four runs. Freshman Christian Dominno got the start in left field and highlighted the bottom of the seventh with a two-RBI double.
- Mason Cook and Arthur Soto each logged RBI base hits to add on a pair of scores in the bottom eighth to make it just a two-run ballgame.
- USF got the runs back in the top of the ninth to make it a 10-6 score. The Vulcans loaded the bases in their final at-bats to put the tying run at the plate, but that would be all for the first game of the doubleheader.
- Logan Groff got the start for the Vulcans, going 5.0 innings with five strikeouts and just four hits and two runs allowed.
GAME 2: SIOUX FALLS 5, HAWAI'I HILO 2 (7 INNINGS)
- Hawai'i Hilo matched Sioux Falls with eight total hits each but just couldn't quite cash in as it left six of its eight total runners left on base in scoring position.
- The Cougars plated a pair of runs in the top of the fifth and were aided by consecutive walks to start the inning to take a 3-0 lead.
- Braeden Mondeau led off the bottom of the fifth with a triple to deep center field and scored on Noah Nakaoka's follow-up RBI single.
- Dominno pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh and launched a full-count solo shot over the left field fence.
- Ethan Salscheider got the start and went 6.0 innings.
