SAN RAFAEL, California – Hawai'i Hilo Men's Basketball advanced to the Pacific West Conference Championships Semifinal Round after taking down Concordia, 70-61, Thursday evening in First Round action at Dominican University's Conlan Center.
Andre Norris put through seven of the Vulcans' final nine points, first finding an open lane under the basket for the go-ahead layup off an assist by Brody Davis to break a 59-all score with just over three minutes left. Both teams went empty from the field over the next two and a half minutes until Norris hit a deep 3-pointer with 55 seconds to go.
CUI was forced to foul in an effort to save its season, but Julio Montes II and Norris combined to sink six free throws to put the victory away.
Norris finished 5 for 5 from the field for 14 points with Montes II matching in points while going 6 for 6 from the free throw line. Nadjrick Peat totaled a double-double with 11 points (5-7 FG) and 13 rebounds. Overall, the Vulcans shot .511 from the field (24-47 FG).
Fourth-seeded Hawai'i Hilo (19-12 overall, 11-9 PacWest) advances to the semifinal round to take on top-seed Point Loma. On the other side of the bracket, third seed Academy of Art defeated sixth seed Westmont and will play second seed Biola in Friday's first matchup of the evening.
