HILO, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Hilo Baseball dropped a three-game affair to No. 9 Westmont, 6-4, 7-1 and 8-6, this past weekend in Pacific West Conference play at James "Jimmy" Correa Ballfield at Francis Wong Stadium.
The Vulcans kept the scores close in Games 1 and 3, matching the Warriors with eight team hits in both contests. In Game 1, the Vulcans tied the score in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly by Nate Gray, Jr. before the Warriors managed to plate two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings to squeak on by. Game 3 had the Vulcans ahead by three runs after a three-run bottom of the third, but Westmont again managed to climb back to go ahead with three total runs in the final two innings.
The final matchup of the four-game series was halted in the bottom of the third due to inclement weather with Westmont leading, 5-0. The contest is unlikely to be continued at a later date and all stats up until the point of suspended play will not be official.
Hawai'i Hilo moved to 7-24 in PacWest play (9-28 overall) as Westmont moved to a 26-7 conference record (31-9 overall). Vulcans are slotted in No. 11 in the conference standings with Westmont at No. 1.
