HILO, Hawai'i – The 2025 Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball season is just two months away as the Vulcans are scheduled to play a 29-match slate to open a new chapter with Hilo's own Reed Sunahara embarking on his first season as Hawai'i Hilo head coach.
This fall's schedule features nine home matches as well as the Pacific West Conference's inaugural PacWest Championships postseason tournament set for Nov. 20-22 hosted by Chaminade on O'ahu.
"I'm very excited about my first season as the Vulcans head coach," Sunahara said. "We have a challenging schedule but are looking forward to competing. It's an exciting time and I encourage our Vulcans 'Ohana to come out strong to support our team."
Season tickets will be available for purchase in the near future.
The Vulcans will have short prep time with practice sessions beginning Aug. 18 and their first match set just 10 days later in the 49th state with the annual Hawai'i-Alaska Challenge. Hawai'i Hilo will play Alaska Anchorage (Aug. 28) and Alaska (Aug. 29) before finishing with a rematch against one of the two teams on Aug. 30 at the Alaska Airlines Center in Anchorage.
The following two weekends will be jam-packed with eight total matches on O'ahu at either Chaminade University of Honolulu's on-campus McCabe Gymnasium or HPU's The Shark Tank in Manoa to close the non-conference portion of the schedule.
PacWest Conference play begins with the Vulcans home opener set for Thursday, Sept. 18 against Fresno Pacific in the on-campus Vulcan Gymnasium. Other home matches include: Dominican (Sept. 20), Chaminade (Oct. 4), HPU (Oct. 5), Azusa Pacific (Oct. 8), Vanguard (Oct. 9), Concordia (Oct. 24), Westmont (Oct. 25) and Menlo (Nov. 12).
In addition to island-hopping back over to O'ahu to take on HPU (Oct. 17) and Chaminade (Oct. 18), the Vulcans will have road trips to both Southern (Sept. 24-29) and Northern California (Nov. 3-7).
