ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Hawai'i Hilo Volleyball edged Alaska in five sets (25-19, 9-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-12) Friday night at the Alaska Airlines Center to claim both the Vulcans' first win of the 2025 season and the first under head coach Reed Sunahara.
It was another night with another five-set marathon, and this time the Vulcans came out on the winning end after breaking from a tied 9-9 score in the fifth set with a run of five consecutive points — four UAF errors followed by a dagger service ace from Emerson Reinke — to set up aloha ball (match point). The Nanooks managed to stick around for three more points before Isabella Hadaller capped the victory with a kill off the hands of two defenders at the net.
