No. 14 Vulcans Fall to No. 25 Westminster on Last-Minute Score

HILO, Hawai'i – No. 14 Hawai'i Hilo Women's Soccer fell by one score in the closing minutes of a top-25 showdown with No. 25 Westminster on Sunday afternoon at the Vulcan Soccer Field.

With time ticking down on a scoreless match, Westminster's Addie McCallister launched from just beyond the corner of the left penalty area and managed to place her shot over the top into the top-right corner for the game-winner in the 84th minute.

Sunday's match marked the third time a matchup between two top-25 teams took place in Hilo — No. 14 Vulcans vs No. 22 UCCS (Sept. 3, 2023) and No. 10 Vulcans vs No. 8 Concordia (Oct. 30, 2023).

Hawai'i Hilo came in at No. 14 in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 Coaches Week 1 Poll, moving up from its previous rank at No. 24.

PACWEST PRESEASON POLL

Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 3 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vulcans finished the 2024 regular season at No. 2 in the conference standings and was one of four teams to qualify for the inaugural PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament, falling to Point Loma in double overtime of the title game. The 2025 PacWest Championships will be hosted by defending champ Point Loma on Nov. 13-15 in San Diego.
