HILO, Hawai'i – The 24th-ranked Hawai'i Hilo Women's Soccer team opened the 2025 season at home with a 1-0 victory over Chico State Friday afternoon at the Vulcan Soccer Field.
Junior Elise Flores rifled through her first collegiate goal in the 32nd minute for the lone score of the contest. Melisa Ranvik assisted on the goal.
The Vulcans had a handful of scoring opportunities, taking eight total shots with six on goal, but it was the Wildcats upping the pressure as time winded down. Chico State took the last three shots of the contest through the final 20 minutes of action, but the Vulcans defense held strong.
Hawai'i Hilo keeper Lydia Keller was credited with two saves for her first career shutout and victory in goal.

PACWEST PRESEASON POLL
Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 3 in the Pacific West Conference Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vulcans finished the 2024 regular season at No. 2 in the conference standings and was one of four teams to qualify for the inaugural PacWest Conference Championships postseason tournament, falling to Point Loma in double overtime of the title game. The 2025 PacWest Championships will be hosted by defending champ Point Loma on Nov. 13-15 in San Diego.
