Volleyball Falls to Golden Eagles to Start Southern California Trip

IRVINE, California – Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball fell to Concordia in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-13), in Pacific West Conference play Wednesday evening at CU Arena.

Wednesday's contest was the first of four consecutive road matches through Southern California with no room for rest as the Vulcans are set to play four matches in just six days.

Chase Koepke led Hawai'i Hilo with 10 kills and Alohi Garcia followed with eight. Both had one ace and two blocks each.

Vulcans will have little rest as they will be right back in action tomorrow evening against Vanguard 15 minutes away in Costa Mesa, California.

GAME NOTES

  • Set 1: Concordia managed to break away from a 10-10 tied score and went 15-6 the rest of the way – eight of those errors by the Vulcans.
  • Set 2: After starting on an early 8-3 advantage, Concordia was able to pull away late in the set with a seven-point streak – two of those points via Vulcans errors – as the Golden Eagles managed to hit .387 on just three attack errors the entire set.
  • Set 3: Hawai'i Hilo committed 10 attack errors (-.161) with Concordia managing five of its seven total blocks in the match.

NATIONAL CHAMPS RETURNING TO HILO

The reigning NCAA Men's Volleyball National Champion UH Manoa Rainbow Warriors are returning to Hilo for another interisland intrasquad showcase set for Sunday, Sept. 27 following the Vulcans match with HPU at 2 p.m. inside the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium. The Vulcan Booster Club is also hosting "A Night of Champions" dinner on Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel with all proceeds benefiting Hawai'i Hilo Women's Volleyball. AMONG THE BEST

Hawai'i Hilo was marked as having received votes in the latest American Volleyball Coaches Association-Taraflex Division II Top 25 Poll released on Sept. 14. The Vulcans totaled seven points and were listed on at least two of the voters' ballots.

PACWEST CONFERENCE PRESEASON POLL

Hawai'i Hilo was voted No. 3 in the 2026 PacWest Preseason Coaches Poll. The Vulcans finished the 2025 regular season tied at No. 3 in the conference standings. The four-team 2026 PacWest Championships postseason tournament will be hosted by Vanguard University on Nov. 13-14 in Costa Mesa, California.
