Named to the ITA Division II All-American Team...Ranked No. 4 in the final West Region singles rankings...The 2019 Pacific West Conference Freshman of the YearÂ
Martin Soukal was showing zero signs of a Sophomore Slump when the season ended. In a rained out match with St. Edwards, Soukal got a match into the books that counted--a victory over the No. 4 ranked player in the country, Anish Sriniketh, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. That victory came two days after he knocked off No. 9 Manual Pilotto of SE Oklahoma State in straight sets, 6-4. 6-4. The 6-foot-5 Czech Republic native finished the shortened season 4-1 on court one, with his only loss coming in his second match against HPU's Benjamin Loccisano, 6-4, 7-5. The Hawaii rivals were scheduled to meet again on March 13 before the season was axed. Ranked No. 41 through the Fall, he surely would have moved up towards Top 10 status if the ITA would have had another ranking. In one-plus seasons at UHH, Soukal is now 18-4 in singles play...Named to the PacWest All-Academic team.
