Former Hilo High School standout and UH Hilo player Aukai Wong is in his third season as an assistant coach for the Vulcans men's basketball program (2019-20)
One of the top scorers in Hilo HS history, Wong spent three seasons playing collegiately at Carl Albert State CC (Oklahoma), Warner Pacific (Oregon) and one year at UHH (2011) for head coach Jeff Law.
At Carl Albert, Wong hit for a college best of 38 points against Lamar CC, and at Warner Pacific he started and averaged nearly 10 points a contest for a team that went 21-9 and reached the NAIA Division II national tournament. At UHH, he again averaged close to 10 points and just over four assists a game.
Wong has five brothers and a sister, and is married to wife Katie. They have two children, James (9) and Blake (5), and live in Hilo.
