Former UHH basketball player Yevgeniy Dyachenko joined the Vulcan staff as an assistant coach in 2019-20.

The 6-foot- 4 Dyachenko played two seasons for the Vulcans (2014 and '15). He had a career average of eight points a game, and had a two-year free throw accuracy rate of .855. He led the Vulcans in three-pointers made (45) as a junior and finished with 81 career treys.

Prior to coming to Hilo, the West Sacramento native played two seasons at Yuba City CC. He prepped at River City HS where he was a two-time league MVP. 

Born in the Ukraine, Dyachenko graduated from UHH with a degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science. After graduation, he played professionally in China, Italy and Spain. He averaged 24.8 points a game in Sicily for Cestitica Torrenovesse before retiring because of a reoccurring foot injury.

In addition to serviing as an assistant coach, Dyachenko is pursuing a career in fire fighting and also coaches and trains young basketball players in the Hilo area.
