After a stint as an assistant, Alan Ryan returned to the Vulcans Women's Cross Country program to take over as head coach in 2023.

Ryan also previously served as the boys and girls cross country coach at Kamehameha Schools Hawai‘i (2010-14), posting state runner-up finishes in 2012 and 2013.
