Hilo native Ka1iulani Ahuna joins the Vulcan staff in 2021 as an assistant coach.
In returning to the Big Island, Ahuna reconnects with former Kamehameha School and Pilipa`a Club teammate Zoe Leonard along with head coach Chris Leonard (who coached Pilipa`a).
Ahuna had a record-setting career at UC Riverside as a 5-foot-10 outside hitter in 2018. She set a school mark with 34 kills against Idaho, and in the opening weekend of the season had back-to-back 30+ kill matches with 30 against Montana and 33 versus Eastern Washington, She earned AVCA National Player of the Week for her efforts, the only time in school history that a Highlander earned that honor.
She spent her first two collegiate seasons at Eastern Washington, leading the team in kills as a sophomore. This past year, she played professionally in Kosovo.
Ahuna prepped at Kamehameha, helping to lead her team to four BIIF championships. She was a three-time all-conference selection, and a two-time BIIF Player of the Year. She also played at Pilipa'a (with Zoe) and was a six-time Moku O Keawe Regional Champion.
