HAWAI‘I HILO STUDENT-ATHLETE ACHIEVEMENTS

Melanie (Marciel) Brokaw was named Hawai‘i Hilo's first Academic Advisor in summer 2018 and has helped raise the academic profile of Vulcans student-athletes.

In Aug. 2023, Brokaw was also named the department's Senior Woman Administrator (SWA).

In April 2025, Brokaw took over as advisor to the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.

The Hilo-native previously worked on the "other side" of campus with the Hawai‘i Hilo Career and Academic Advising Center. Prior to that, Brokaw spent eight years down the street at Hawai‘i Community College serving as the Native Hawaiian Student Success Counselor.
