Tara Martinez

Hilo, Hawaii – University of Hawaii at Hilo softball pitchers Tara Martinez and Sarah Steele have been designated as National Fastpitch Coaches Association Scholar/Athletes for the 2003-04 academic year.

To qualify student/athletes must have acquired a 3.5 grade point average for the academic year.

Both also earned academic all-Pacific West Conference honors for the 2004 season.

Steele carried a 3.8 gpa during the academic year. On the field, she was 13-5 with a 2.16 ERA earning second-team all-Pacific West Conference honors.

Martinez carried a 3.81 gpa and was 9-10 with a 2.99 ERA.
