Vulcans Split with Sea Warriors

Kaneohe, Hawaii - The Univesity of Hawaii at Hilo softball team split a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with the University of Hawai‘i-Hilo, 2-0 and 9-10, at the HPU/Windward campus softball field.

In game one, the Vulcans relied on two ninth-inning errors to beat the Sea Warriors. With one out, Chelsea Osborne reached first on an error by the pitcher. B.J. Shimamoto followed with a grounder to pitcher Malia Sullivan. Sullivan through the ball away letting Shimamoto race to second and Osborne scoring. Kayla Kahuli then doubled in Shimamoto.

The Vulcans managed just two hits off of Sullivan.

Game two was a slugfest with the teams combining for 27 hits.

The Vulcans held a 9-5 lead before the Sea Warriors burst for five runs in the bottom of the eighth.

Laura Kimborowicz went 3-for-4 with two doubles and had five RBIs. Kayla Kahuli went 2-for-4 with three RBIs and scored two runs.

Tara Martinez picked up the win in game one and the loss in game two.
