Hilo, Hawaii – Individual sport athletes dominated the awards at the annual University of Hawaii at Hilo Athletic All-Sports Awards Banquet held at the Nani Mau Gardens on Tuesday, April 27.

Nick Mason, a junior golfer, and Dorothee Beauvir, a junior tennis player, were selected the Vulcan Athletes of the Year.
Mason is ranked among the top-five players in the West Region with a 71.85 stroke average. A graduate of Leleihua High School in Wahiawa, Hawaii, he had top-10 finishes in four of the nine tournaments the Vulcans competed in and won the Buzzini/Cal State-Stanislaus Invitational. He also finished in a second place tie at the NCAA Division I Taylor Made/Waikoloa Intercollegiate hosted by UH Hilo. As if collegiate competition was not enough, Mason also became the first amateur to win the Hilo Invitational Golf Tournament.
Beauvir finished the season 11-6 in singles is ranked 8th in the West Region and 36th in the national poll. A transfer from Larmor Plage, France, five of her singles losses were the nation’s top-ranked player while her sixth was in a tie-breaker to the regions 6th-ranked player. She completed her doubles season with a 17-4 record.
Both Mason and Beauvir will be leading their teams to West Regional Championships. Mason and the golf team head to Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash., for competition on Monday through Wednesday, May 3-5.
Beauvir teammates hosts a Regional on Thursday and Friday, May 6-7, at the UHH Tennis Courts.
Honored as the 2003-04 Vulcan Academic Athletes of the Year were Richard Korneck and Sara Pilgreen. Both will be graduating the May, Korneck with a degree in Economics and Pilgreen with degrees in Communication and Psychology.

Most Dedicated Athlete Awards were presented to Kaliko Oligo (baseball), Justin Dobson (basketball), Johan Dana and Laura Hernandez (cross country), Kevin Shimomura (golf), Nancy Vega (softball), Kevin Yamauchi and Sheena Lani (tennis), and Emily Hutchinson (volleyball).
UHH Athletic Director Kathleen McNally also presented her special awards to Scott McLaughlin (courage), Michiko Tanaka, Oligo and Hutchinson (leadership).
