Vulcans Claim PacWest Championship

Hilo, Hawai‘i. — One would be right to call the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo volleyball team a “10 plus" as the Vulcans clinched the 2007 Pacific West Conference Championship.

The Vulcans improved their PacWest record to a perfect 11-0 in convincing fashion 30-22, 30-17, 30-23 victory over Grand Canyon University in PacWest action at the UHH Gym.

Sophomore Fabiane Seben hit flawless with 15 kills in 18 attempts and no errors, hitting .833 percent. Hillary Hurley added 10 kills.

"We had perfect passing and the set was perfect, so I can do my job," said Seben.

The Vulcans earned the 3-0 victory with a well-balanced attack. They tallied seven service aces, 13 team blocks and produced a .333 attack percentage (50 kills/14 errors/108 attacks).

Sophomore setter Desiree Agader had 35 set assists, while libero Laura Rodriguez had 14 digs.

Grand Canyon, now 7-16 and 3-8, was led by Dana Edington, who had 14 kills.

According to PacWest rules, Dr. Bruce Atkinson is the PacWest Coach of the Year.
