HAWAI'I HILO VULCANS ATHLETICS

Fourth in PWC

Hilo, Hawaii – The 2006-07 basketball season came to an end with the University of Hawaii at Hilo losing to Chaminade University 76-60 and finishing the season off with a disappointing 9-18 record and a fourth place finish in the Pacific West Conference with a 6-9 record.

But for Justin Dobson, Darryl Harris and Travis Sobers, it was a game to remember as they wore the Vulcan uniform for the last time.

"These three guys, anchored by Dobbie, are good kids that have done a lot and probably overachieved in a lot of ways," UHH head coach Jeff Law said. "Hilo can be proud of the three guys leaving the program.

"The game wasn't a good barometer of how we can play. We got off to a great start but ran out of energy really fast and let Chaminade dictate what was going on."

The Vulcans took a six-point lead on the Silverswords helped by a pair of three-pointers by Harris three minutes into the game. Two minutes later, the lead was lost for good.

"Senior Night always presents a multi-pronged monster," Law said. "All the seniors try to do more than they can because they're really trying hard."

Harris led the Vulcans with 17 points while Sobers added 10.

Law admits that he will also take a lot away from this season and bank on that experience to improve his program.

"This group taught me a lot this year," Law said. "Hopefully, I'll be able to take that out on the road and recruit and plan out things a little bit better so we're better organized. We need to make sure we control what we can and that starts tomorrow by going out and getting players."
