Hilo, Hawaii – Two more soccer players have signed on with the University of Hawaii at Hilo soccer program for the 2007 women's season.
Alexandra Mellish, 5-4 Midfielder (Atascadero High School, Calif.)
Mellish was a standout at Atascadero High School in California. She had 29 goals and 27 assists in high school leading Atascadero to an overall three-year record of 42-13-12. She was a two-time all-league player and the 2007 MVP of her high school team. She played club soccer for San Luis Obispo Soccer Club "Storm".
"Lexi brings our program sheer athleticism and work rate,"
UHH interim coach Travis Clarke said. "She has a great ability to strike the ball from distance and can defend well on the flanks. Her work rate alone should give her an ability to get minutes on the field as a freshman."
Kellie Sakanoi, 5-5 (Pearl City High School, Hawaii, Grand Canyon University)
Sakanoi is a transfer from Grand Canyon University where she scored five goals and had 10 assists in 2005. As a prepster, she was also named as an honorable-mention all-State selection in her senior year. She played club soccer for Leahi Premier Soccer Club in Honolulu.
"Kellie brings our program college level playing experience," Clarke said. "She has played club soccer at a high level and has already shown she can contribute at the Division II level".
