Six To Join Vulcans In 2007

Hilo, Hawaii – Six players will be joining the University of Hawaii at Hilo men's soccer program for the 2007 season.

Clay Campbell - Catalina Foothills High School (Tucson, Ariz.)

Campbell was a starting forward and an all-state honorable mention selection in 2006 in which his team won the State Championship. His team was the 2007 State Runner-up.

"Clay is a very sound player with excellent skills and will help us a lot next year," UHH interim head coach Gordon Inouye said.

Devin Cranford - Santiago Canyon College (Orange, Calif.)/Esperanza High School (Anaheim, Calif.)

Cranford was a forward/outside midfielder and leading scorer his junior year in high school. Attending Junior College on a part time basis, he played soccer in the Pacific Developmental League over the past couple of years.

"Devin brings a tremendous work ethic to our team along with maturity and experience at a high level of soccer," Inouye said.

Dane Kaylor - Edison High School (Huntington Beach, Calif.)

Kaylor, a goalie, voted league's co-defensive player of the year 2005-06 season when he a had an .87 goals against average with 17 shutouts. He was also a two-time scholar/athlete.

"Dane can play at a Division I level given additional training and experience under our goal keeper coach Chris Cooper," Inouye said. "Has excellent size (6-foot-1 and 190 pound) and very quick hands and feet."

Nyle Ortiz - Layton High School (Utah)

A forward and midfielder, Ortiz was a 2006 second-team 2005 honorable metion all-state player. Nyle is a starter for 89 Sparta Premier Soccer Club (2004 and 2006 State Champions) and the Utah Olympic Development State Team (2002-06).

"Nyle brings a lot of high level of playing experience to our program," Inouye said. "We expect great things from Nyle."

Alex Tristan Sanders - Huntington Beach High School (Calif.)

Sanders was a 2005-06 second-team all-conference selection and the team's MVP for the 2004-05 season. He is the starting center midfielder for the North Huntington Beach FC (NHB FC) which plays in the Premier Division of the Cal South Youth Soccer Association (Cal-South).

"Alex has tremendous vision from the midfield and will create many scoring opportunities for us," Inouye said. "His work ethic and leadership skills will help us a lot next year. Alex also has the ability to strike a flighted ball on a one touch which will result in some goals for us."

Paul Harold Robert Schaus – Red Mountain High School (Mesa, Ariz.)

Schaus plays for the AZFC 89 Hammers in club soccer, one of the top teams in their division in Arizona. A three-year letter-winner at Red Mountain, he played on the 2007 East Valley Region Championship team in Arizona High School's highest division. Schaus was given the 2005-06 Team Goal of the Year and 2006-07 Team Assist of the Year awards.
