Belmont, Calif. – A second-half free throw contest became a determining factor in tonight’s women’s basketball game as the University of Hawaii at Hilo fell to Notre Dame de Namur University 69-56 in Pacific West Conference action.
“It was a great game to watch but we just couldn’t convert the opportunities,”
UHH head coach Daphne Honma said.
The Vulcans (5-11 overall, 5-4 PWC) took a 31-25 lead into the final period and nearly matched the Argonauts (6-10, 6-2) shot for shot from there on out except at the free throw line.
While the Vulcans were 10 of 24 from the field with no three pointers, the Antelopes were 11 of 28 with three 3-pointers.
But at the charity stripe, the Argonauts hit 19 of 22 attempts while the Vulcans were 5 of 15. The Vulcan committed 16 fouls in the period while the Argonauts had 13.
Sheila Azevedo led the Vulcans with 12 points while
Samantha Nordstrom added 11 points.
Britni Rathke led the Argonauts with 16 points.
