The University of Hawaii at Hilo took the opportunity to play an exhibition game against a squad of alumni and former local college athletes and gave fans a look at what’s to come in 2008-09 with the 101-67 win in the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium.
“It was fun and felt natural,” senior guard
Ashley Kualii said. “We have good chemistry.”
Kualii tallied 12 points while her running mate in the backcourt
Hina Kimitete added 11.
Inside the paint was the biggest improvement as
Tagiilima Ripley and
Amanda Adams scored 15 points a piece.
“They stepped up and will be good for us when #Sheila [Azevedo]# is not here,” Kualii said. “Inside and outside we’re both very strong. Shooting and defensively we were quick.”
Leading opponents were former University of Hawaii center Kalei Namohala with 15 points and University of Oregon guard Kahea Schuckert with 13 points. Leo Azevedo added 11 points.
