Honolulu, Hawaii – Shane Kessel's two-run single capped a four-run fourth and a lead that would hold-up as the University of Hawaii at Hilo beat the University of Hawaii Manoa 4-3 in Les Murakami Stadium.
T.J. Brown opened the inning with a single them moved to third on Michael Higa's single. Brown then scored on a wild pitch that also moved Higa to second. After Peter Rodgers was hit by a pitch, Dayne Ogawa's ground-rule double over the left field fence pushed Higa across the plate for the innings second run. Kessel then sent the pitch to right field to end the scoring.
On the mound, Kekoa Lee made the most of his first collegiate start by picking up the victory with a 5.1 inning, 5 hit, 2 run performance. He walked four but struck out two.
Dustin Gilmore picked up the save with a no-hit, one strikeout performance over the final two innings.
At the plate, Higa and Rodgers were 2 for 3 while Kessel was 2 for 4.
