Seattle, Wash. – The University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team found their swing as they banged out 12 hits in an 11-6 loss to the University of Washington.
Dayne Ogawa collected a pair of doubles while
A.J. Satele and
Peter Rodgers belted homeruns.
"We hit the ball well but just not at the right time,"
UHH head coach Joey Estrella said. "We just couldn't get it going."
Rodgers followed a second-inning RBI single with a third-inning three-run homer to give the Vulcans (7-13) a 5-1 lead.
But just as the Vulcans began to reach the eruption point, things got cold.
"It was nice until about 2 o'clock when it began to rain," Estrella said. "Then, when we started the game it was okay.
"But about the third inning it got cold and rainy. It must have been in the 30s. That's about when they got all those runs."
The Huskies (15-6) tallied a 3-run homerun in the third and four more runs in the fourth to take turn the game around.
"Considering all the elements it was a tough game for us," Estrella said. "We had the lead and just couldn't hold it."
Five Vulcans paired hit –
Ronel Trias, Satele, Ogawa,
Thomas Brown and Rodgers – while Rodgers collected four RBI.
