Lacey, Wash. – Weather is playing havoc with the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team but in a good way as the Vulcans beat St. Martins' University 9-6 at Saints' Field in a game shortened to six innings.
"It is cold,"
UHH head coach Joey Estrella said. "It snowed in the third inning."
Leading 9-6, the Vulcans (9-14) added four more runs in the seventh. The Saints (12-13) answered with a pair runs before the game was called after two outs due to the weather.
"We hit the ball well," Estrella said.
Ronel Trias and
Peter Rodgers led the Vulcans with three hits each while
Keoni Manago, Matt Haasenritter and
Cade Uyetake had two hits each.
Jesse Moon (1-2) picked up the win with a 4-run, 4-hit performance over four innings.
The Vulcans jumped out with a 6-run third inning. Following RBI singles by Manago and
Dayne Ogawa, Haasenritter bases-loaded double gave the Vulcans a 5-0 lead. He then scored on an infield error.
Ogawa picked up another RBI with a single in the fourth while
A.J. Satele blasted a 2-run homer in the sixth.
