Ari Leads Vulcans to PWC Title

Laie, Hawaii – University of Hawaii at Hilo golfer Zady Ari holed out from 80 yards to win the 2008 Pacific West Conference Golf Championship and lead the Vulcans to the team championship on the 7,072-yard, par 72 Palmer Course at the Turtle Bay Resort.

After today’s final round, second-round leaders Ari and Grand Canyon University’s Terence Daniels turned in 1-over-par 73s to tie at 6-over-par 222 to lead the pack.

Returning to the par-5, 18th hole for the first playoff both carded pars. On the second try at the hole, both players carded birdies. On the third attempt, Ari’s third shot found the bottom of the cup for an eagle and tournament title.

The Vulcans continued to burn up the course on day three. The squad followed an opening round of 309 with a 300 in round two and today’s 293 to finish with a 902. They were followed by Grand Canyon University (908), Dixie State College (932), Notre Dame de Namur University (954), Brigham Young University-Hawaii (969), Hawaii Pacific University (979) and Chaminade University (1093).

Logan Goulding (74-77-75=226) turned in a 75 to finish in 6th place while Isaac Jaffurs 72 was the Vulcans low score of the day and brought him in with a 227 (81-74-72) and 7th place. Jesus Valdivia (78-76-74=228)and Johnathan Hirata (81-82-74=237) closed the tournament with rounds of 74 to finish in 8th place and a tie for 12th place, respectively.
