Santa Clara, Calif. – As the University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team's 10-day trek through the Bay Area nears completion, it has taken a toll on the Vulcans' pitching staff as six pitchers were used in a 10-3 loss to Santa Clara University at Schott Stadium.
"We're tired, we're beat up,"
UHH head coach Joey Estrella said. "We were competitive tonight hopefully tomorrow will be a different story.
"For us to do anything we have to pitch well, they are a very good team."
The Broncos (24-16) got off to another quick start with a run in the first and four in the second off of Vulcan starter
Kekoa Lee. They came back for two in the fourth and another in the fifth.
The Vulcans (13-25) posted all their runs in the sixth inning on a bases-loaded walk by
Matt Haasenritter and a two-run double by
Shane Kessel.
A.J. Satele was the only Vulcan to pair hits.
