Hilo, Hawaii – The University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball team capped off the 2007 season with a doubleheader sweep of Hawaii Pacific University at Wong Stadium with scores of 10-7 and 4-3.
For seniors
Joe Davis, Emil DeAndreis, Jeff Germain, Dustin Gilmore, Michael Higa, Dayne Ogawa, Tyler Safford and
A.J. Satele it was a fitting farewell to their collegiate careers.
"When you have guys that have been playing for you for four years and you're able to go out and play well like we did today, you feel good for the guys,"
UHH baseball coach Joey Estrella said. "Everybody contributed throughout the whole day so it was a good send off for the seniors and I feel good for them."
Germain took the mound for the Vulcans (17-27) in game one and delivered a one-run, five-hit performance over 4.2 innings for his second win of the season.
In game two, Safford went 3.0 innings giving up two runs on two hits with a pair of strikeouts for his third win of the season. DeAndreis threw one hitless inning with a strikeout while Gilmore picked up his third save of the season with a one-hit, one-strikeout performance in the final inning.
Higa went 3 for 5 at the plate in the doubleheader to raise his season batting average to a school record .404.
Ogawa was 4 for 6 with 3 RBI while Satele collected a hit and an RBI.
Davis didn't play in today's doubleheader after delivering a nine-strikeout, complete game performance in Friday's 6-3 win over the Sea Warriors (31-20-1).
