While #Kekoa Lee# delivered a winning performance, #Peter Rodgers# delivered the winning run as the University of Hawai'i at Hilo came from behind to split a Pacific West Conference doubleheader with Hawaii Pacific University at Wong Stadium in Hilo.
The Vulcans (5-4 overall, 1-1 in the PWC) won game two 4-3 while the Sea Warriors (9-1, 1-1) won the opener 5-2.
Lee (1-1) went the distance in game two tossing a three-hitter with seven strikeouts and only two walks over seven innings.
Although Rodgers picked up just one hit in the game it came when the Vulcans needed it. Entering the bottom of the seventh, the game was tied at three. #Shane Kessel# started the inning with a single to center and moved to second on a balk. #Ronel Trias'# bunt sacrifice move Kessel to third. The Sea Warriors then loaded the bases with a pair of intentional walks.
After taking a swipe at the first pitch, Rodgers drove the next pitch into left field for the game winner.
#Matt Haasenritter# was the only Vulcan to pair hits.
In the first game, the Vulcans fell behind 5-0 before Haasenritter's bases-loaded sacrifice fly broke the ice.
#T.J. Pilla's# seventh inning single drove in the final run before two Vulcans were stranded on base to end the game.
#Nathan Kekahuna, Jr.# pitched the final two innings giving up a hit and a walk while striking out one.
Rodgers had two hits for the Vulcans.
