A balanced attack by the University of Hawai‘i at Hilo men’s basketball team led to a 25-point win over Hawai‘i Pacific University in Pacific West Conference play in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.
The 101-76 victory improved the Vulcans’ record to 14-11 overall and 7-5 in the PWC while the Sea Warriors fell to 9-15 overall and 3-9 in the PWC.
Jay DeMaestri’s 23 points and nine rebounds led five Vulcans in double-digit scoring. DeMaestri tallied six 3-pointers in the game.
Jacob Briggs added 19 points.
Perry Baggett added 16 points.
John Smith had 12 and
Brandon Price had 10 points.
After hitting just 15 of 34 shots in the first half for a 44.1 shooting percentage, the ball began to fall for the Vulcans as they connected on nearly 64 percent of their shots in the second half with 23 of 36 shots falling through the basket.
