The University of Hawaii at Hilo opened the 2009 season with a 10-5 loss to Biola University in the first game of a doubleheader at Wong Stadium. The second game was cancelled due to rain.

On the mound, four Vulcans combined to give up 10 runs on 10 hits with seven walks and no strikeouts while five Eagles combined on five runs on seven hits with five walks and six strikeouts.

In game two, the Vulcans led 4-3 after two innings before steady rain created unplayable conditions.
