The University of Hawaii at Hilo scored six runs in the bottom of eighth inning for a 12-8 win over Northwest Nazarene University in an NCAA Division II West Region game at Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii.

The Vulcans are 2-1 while the Crusaders are 1-2.

Entering the frame, the Vulcans trailed 8-6 after the Crusaders pushed across two runs in their half.

The Vulcans had a man on third with two outs in the eighth when the game began to roll their way. After #Michael Dietrich# walked, #Ronel Trias# singled in a run. #Keoni Manago# followed with a 2-run double to left field to give the Vulcans a 1-run lead. After a walk, #Shane Kessel# drove in Manago. #T.J. Pilla# followed with a 2-run double down the left field line to end scoring.

"We got the first day jitters out of the way and everybody got to relax and have fun," Kessel said. "We didn't tense up once we got down like we had in the past."

Kessel led the way with three hits in four at bats with four RBI.

"Yesterday, I put a little too much pressure on myself and tried too hard," Kessel said. "Today, I adjusted and thought quick hands and just put the bat on the ball."

Trias, Manago and Pilla collected two hits each while Pilla also picked up four RBI.

Kurtis Sherer picked up the win with a one-hit performance over the final two innings.
