After rallying to send one game into extra innings and then rallying to win another, the University of Hawaii at Hilo's difference making inning vanished as the Vulcans dropped a 7-3 game to Northwest Nazarene University in an NCAA Division II West Region game at Simmons' Field in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
"We know that we can come back but it's tough to do that twice in two games," #UHH head coach Joey Estrella# said. "The difference today is coming off a big win like last night's we needed to score early in the game. We had guys on bases in the first three innings and came up empty.
"Give credit to their pitchers who kept us off balance."
While the Crusaders' pitching staff was keeping the Vulcans in check, Dan Hennig was doing the same for the Vulcans over seven-innings in which he gave up just two runs on five hits and a walk while also striking out four.
The Vulcans trailed 2-0 until scoring a pair of runs on the sixth on a 2-RBI single by #Cody Barrett#.
The game unraveled in the eighth as the Crusaders tallied five runs on four hits and a Vulcan error.
#Keoni Manago# was 2 for 4 at the plate.
