#Aaron Correa# is another University of Hawaii at Hilo baseball player who found his way back home and he showed baseball fans how happy he was in pitching the Vulcans to a 6-3 win over Northwest Nazarene University in Wong Stadium.
"It's been a while since I've been here and I feel relieved," Correa said. "I sat out for a year and I was nervous being back on the mound here in Hilo and facing everybody.
"I was nervous in the first inning but all the jitters went away after that."
The transfer from Northeastern Oklahoma A&M started the game giving up a run on two hits aided by a Vulcan error but settled down over the next four innings to hold the Crusaders (2-3) to three runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out two.
#Tyler Simao# came in for three shutout innings in which he gave up three hits and struck out two. #Sheldon Otsuka# picked up the save.
"Pitching is not a surprised and I'm pleased," UHH head coach #Joey Estrella# said. "One thing we said in the fall was that our pitchers have had to throw strikes and so far they are doing that."
Hilo native #Ronnie Loeffler# got the season start on Thursday and recorded a win. Over 6.2 innings, he gave up just five hits and a walk while striking out four.
#Michael Dietrich#'s 2-run single highlighted the 4-run third. The Vulcans added two more runs in the eighth inning on two hits but stranded three runners.
#Shane Kessel# and #Joshua Wong# paired hits for the Vulcans (3-2).
