#Shane Kessel# went 5 for 7 as the University of Hawaii at Hilo beat Grand Canyon University 4-3 in a suspended game that spanned 26 hours then dropped the second game 7-2 in the Pacific West Conference doubleheader at Wong Stadium.
The Vulcans are 5-9 overall and 1-5 in the PacWest while the Antelopes are 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the PacWest.
The Vulcans took a 3-0 lead into the seventh inning before the Antelopes answered with three runs. The bottom of the inning started with #Ronel Trias# being hit by a pitch. After a sacrifice bunt and a strike out, Kessel dropped a Texas leaguer into centerfield for the game winner.
Kessel led the Vulcans with 3 hits including a double, two RBI and a run scored.
The Vulcans trailed 2-0 in the second game when offensive life seemed on the horizon. After #John Hoffman# walked,Trias' single moved Hoffman to third. Hoffman then scored on the back end of a double steal.
But when the Antelope got to the plate, they scored five runs on two hits aided by a Vulcan error, two walks and a wild pitch.
"We've got to do a better job of keeping our focus especially now since we are in conference play," said #UHH head coach Joey Estrella#. "We can't afford to lose any more games at home, so we're going to have to come out and stay focused for 14 innings."
The Vulcans got one back in the sixth on a bases-loaded ground out.
Kessel was 2 for 3 in the game.
