The University of Hawaii at Hilo dropped a series opening doubleheader to Pacific West Confernce for Dixie State University, 9-1 and 8-4, on the Bruce Hurst Field in St. George, Utah.

The Vulcans are 5-13 overall and 1-9 in the PacWest while the Red Storm is 14-9 overall and 8-6 in the PacWest.

The Vulcans' couldn't take advantage of five walks as their offense struggled in the first game with only four hits. However, they took advantage of #T.J. Pilla's# one-out seventh inning double. #Kalehua Moniz# followed with a single to move Pilla to third base. #Arlie Johnson# hit a deep shot to left center to drive in a run.

The offense opened up for 13 hits in the second game but nine base runners were stranded.

#Joshua Wong# led the squad with three hits while #Jeff Hanna, Shane Kessel, Cody Barrett# and Moniz paired hits.
