Kekoa Lee made the most of a rare opportunity as the University of Hawaii at Hilo opened the season with a 22-5 thumping of Patten University.
"That's the first game I actually got to pitch and hit in and it feels good," said the senior southpaw. "It's good to have a good start."
Lee pitched five innings, struck out eight, walked two, gave up four hits and three earned runs. At the plate, he was 5 for 6 with four RBI, a home run and five runs scored.
But he wasn't the only one with a good night at the plate. Keoni Manago was 5 for 6 with two RBI, a double and three runs scored.
Dan Hennigs was 4 for 5 with four RBI, a double and three runs scored. Cade Uyetake was 3 for 5 with three RBI and a run scored. Zachary Hamasaki was 2 for 4 with an RBI, a triple and four runs scored.
The Vulcans (1-0) collected 24 hits in their first outing and stranded 15 baserunners.
Bryan Raines finished up the game for the Vulcans giving up a hit and two walks over four innings while striking out six.
