Hennig surprising in first start

One big inning and the University of Hawaii at Hilo fell to Dixie State College 6-0 in a non-Pacific West Conference game at Wong Stadium in Hilo.

[Box Score]

Through 6.1 innings Dan Hennig and the Vulcan defense kept the Red Storm scoreless on seven hits and stranding seven runs. Eight hits and six runs later, the game was nearly over.

Making his first start of the season, Hennigs gave up three runs on 11 hits and a walk while striking out four. Seamus Yoneshige stopped the Storm with 1.1 innings of scoreless relief while striking out three.

The Vulcans looked to take a lead in the fifth when Steven Riddle's frame opening double to the right-field corner was followed by a pair of walks. But that opportunity ended on an infield pop up.
