The University of Hawaii at Hilo took advantage of errors and made the defensive plays to take a 12-5, 4-0 doubleheader sweep of Hawaii Pacific University in Pacific West Conference play at Wong Stadium in Hilo.

After the Sea Warriors (16-17 overall, 13-9 PacWest) took a quick 2-0 first-inning start to begin the series Keoni Manago scored on a grounder to put the Vulcans (13-19, 9-13) on the board.
Bryan Patterson, who went 3 for 6 with 4 RBI, drove in a pair of runs to highlight a 3-run, 3-hit fourth inning.
Then the Sea Warriors defense fell apart as the Vulcans scored seven runs on five hits and stranded a pair in HPU's three error fifth inning.
Eight of nine starters collected a pair of hits or better in an 18-hit attack. Also collecting three hits was Johnathan James. Picking up two hits each were Manago, Kekoa Lee, Steven Riddle, Dan Hennigs, Zachary Hamasaki and David Keller.
Tyler Simao picked up his second win of the season with an 8-hit performance over 6.2 innings. He also struck out one.
In the second game, defense stranded nine Sea Warriors as Vulcan pitching gave up eight hits and four walks.
But with momentum on their side, the Vulcans continued to get timely hitting as they posted a 3-run, 4-hit second inning. Two runs scored on Hamasaki's single to short and a wild throw allowed Hamasaki to second. Keller followed with a double to left fied.
Riddle paired hits for the Vulcans while Bryan Raines evened his record to 1-1 with a 7-hit shutout performance over five innings. Chris Pascual closed the game with a 1-hit, 3-strikeout performance over two innings.
