Slow start ends with big offensive output

The University of Hawaii at Hilo got off to a slow start but eventually finished strong in a Pacific West Conference split with Hawaii Pacific University at Wong Stadium in Hilo, Hawaii. 

The Vulcans (13-21 overall, 10-14 PacWest) dropped the first game 9-7 then rebounded with an 11-2 win in the second game.

After spotting the Sea Warriors (17-18, 14-10) a 5-run lead, the Vulcans got started on Keoni Manago's fourth inning solo homerun. Two innings later, he would score another run as Kekoa Lee followed Manago's single with a double.

The Vulcans added three runs on four hits in the seventh to pull the Vulcans within a pair of runs, 7-5. 

After the Sea Warriors posted two more runs, the Vulcans came back charging but kept falling short. In the eighth, the Vulcans had runners on second and third with no outs eventually scoring one run but stranding two. 

In the ninth, the Vulcans had the bases loaded with no outs but eventually scored just one run while stranding three. 

Manago was 3 for 4 to lead the Vulcans while Bryan Patterson and Lee pair hits and added two RBI each. 

The Vulcans carried the momentum into the second game scoring six runs on five hits and two Sea Warrior errors in the first inning. They eventually added two more in the third and three in the fourth. 

Patterson, Steven Riddle and Richie Mariano paired hits for the Vulcans.

Aaron Correa picked up the complete game victory with an 8-hit, 5-strikeout performance.
