PacWest Series Split

The University of Hawaii at Hilo and Hawaii Pacific University split their final Pacific West Conference doubleheader of the season with the Vulcans falling 5-4 in game one and rebounding 6-5 in game two.

The Vulcans (18-24 overall, 13-17 PacWest) scored quickly in the first inning of game one on a two-out single by Steven Riddle which drove in Kekoa Lee who doubled.

A pair of two-out singles gave the Vulcans a 3-0 lead in the second. This time Joshua Wong was hit by a pitch and got to second on a sacrifice. Following a foul ball flyout, Keoni Manago singled in Wong. Manago moved to second on an error by the pitcher then scored on Lee's single.

After the Sea Warriors (20-21, 17-13) posted two runs in the third, the Vulcans got one back in the fourth on a ground out by Lee.

The Sea Warriors came up with three runs on three hits in the ninth to take game one.

Manago and Lee paired hits for the Vulcans.

The Vulcans jumped to another early lead in game two opening with back-to-back singles followed by a 2-RBI double Lee. After Lee moved to third on a ground out, he scored on Wong's ground out for a 3-0 lead.

Bryan Patterson and Lee singled in runs in the second inning to continue the scoring.

The game was tied after five innings when Johnathan James drove in the game winner. With one out, Patterson walked and Lee doubled to push Patterson to third. James drove the ball to right field to drive in Patterson.

Manago and Lee collected three hits each in the Vulcans' 15-hit attack. Patterson, Riddle and Zachary Hamasaki added two hits each.
