A 7-3, 8-5 doubleheader sweep of Academy of Art (4-31, PWC 3-23), allowed the University of Hawaii at Hilo (12-32, PWC 11-29) to give Coach Joey Estrella a well deserved retirement present. Estrella's farewell season ended with a 4 game sweep of the Urban Knights. It also served as an early graduation present for 11 seniors finishing their playing career.
Jeremy Dela Cruz picked up his first win of the year throwing 5.1 innings of relief. Dela Cruz pitched no hit, no run ball and giving up just 2 walks and striking out 1.
Adam Cusack's 2 run double highlighted a 3 run second inning to give the Vulcans a lead they would not relinquish.
Stefan Miner's RBI double following back to back triples by Sam Kim and
Brad Fairweather provided 2 insurance runs in the sixth inning.
Miner was the only Vulcan to pair hits. He and Cusack both drove in 2 runs apiece.
Richie Mariano overcame a shaky start giving up 3 early runs and 5 hits in the first and second innings to garner his first win of the season in the nightcap. Mariano surrendered only 1 hit and 1 run over the next four innings.
John Abreu and
Garrett Micheels both hit 2 run singles in the fifth inning to break a 4-4 tie. Abreu and
Greg Cleary had 2 hits for the Vulcans. One of Cleary's hits was his first homerun of the season.
