Enola-Gay "Sweetie Lindsey" Osorio was a 4-year volleyball player for the Vulcans (1977-80) and one of the original recruits to play for Head Coaches Mike Wilton and Sharon Peterson. Lindsey-Osorio earned all-America status in 1979 as the Vulcans won their first National Championship. She continued to play in the USVBA National & Far Western Tournament until 1993. Since 1970, she has coached the Haili Girls Volleyball team and has also been an assistant coach at Hilo (1976-78) and Waiakea (1988-00) High Schools.
Tyler Yates, a 3-year starter/relief pitcher (1996-98), was the first Vulcans' baseball product to reach the major leagues. He holds the freshman record with six saves in 1996. Yates was drafted in the 23
rd round of the 1998 MLB draft by the Oakland Athletics. In 2004, he earned the #4 spot in the New York Mets' starting rotation. He went on to play for the Atlanta Braves and Pittsburgh Pirates. Injuries ended Yates career in which he appeared in 239 games with a 12-17 MLB record.
Bob Lamson spent his life supporting student/athletes. The former owner of a Midwestern retail chain, Lamson left his mark on various mid-western athletic programs before settling in Hilo in 1985 and focusing on Vulcan athletics. In 1990, he guided the first of many Vulcan Athletic Scholarship Fund Drives helping build a million dollar endowment. Lamson also served as interim tennis coach and interim vice chancellor of student affairs while also being a driving force behind the Vulcan Athletic Booster Club.
