The University of Hawaii at Hilo has punched their ticket to the NCAA Division II Championship with a second place tie at the West/South Central Regional on the Grey Rock Golf Club in Austin, TX.

With third and fourth place finishes by
Chris Shimomura and
Corey Kozuma, the Vulcans tied Chico State with a 3-day 894 (300-285-299).

Shimomura was at even par 216 with rounds of 72-73-71 while Kozuma was a stroke back at 217 with rounds of 73-71-73.

Dalen Yamauchi was tied for 28
th place at 10-over-par 226 (73-74-79).
Kyeton Littel was tied for 77
th place at 19-over-par 235 (82-77-76) and
Christian Agosto was tied for 100
th place at 28-over-par 244 (82-79-83).

St. Edward's won the tournament by six strokes with an 878. They were followed by
UH Hilo and Chico State (894), Cal State Monterey Bay (897), Western New Mexico (903), Simon Fraser (904), Colorado-Colorado Springs (906), Colorado Christian (907), Sonoma State (911), Western Washington (914), Cal State Stanislaus (915), St. Mary's-TX and Dixie State (916), Cameron and Dallas Baptist (918), UC San Diego (919), California Baptist (920), Colorado School of Mines (922), Colorado State-Pueblo (926) and Midwestern State (929).

The 2014 Championship will be held May 19-23 on The Meadows Golf Course in Allendale, MI.

In their 2005 appearance at the NCAA Championship, the Vulcans finished fifth while all-American Nick Mason capped a stellar career with a second place finish. Similar to that season, one Vulcan –
Dalen Yamauchi – qualified for the previous season's championship as an individual. In 2004, Mason represented UH Hilo and finished fourth.
