Kallen Miyataki has been appointed University of Hawai'i at Hilo Head Baseball Coach, announced UH Hilo Interim Athletic Director
Tim Moore.
Â
"Kallen's experience in the Hilo community will prove valuable in the long-run in developing our baseball program," Moore said. "Coach Miyataki maintains impressive recruiting ties in Hawai`i, West Coast, and Alaska and is well respected in the collegiate baseball community".Â
Â
This will be Miyataki's third fitting in a UH Hilo coach's uniform following a three-year period as the associate head coach (2004-06) and 14-year stint as assistant coach (1988-2001).
 Â
His coaching career began as an assistant at Moanaloa High School (HI) before a graduate assistant position at the University of Hawaii (1985-87) took Miyataki to the collegiate level. He served one year as an assistant coach (1988) before joining former University of Hawaii at Hilo Baseball Coach Joey Estrella's staff.
Â
Coach Miyataki was a standout student athlete as Team Captain and most valuable player for the UH Hilo Baseball Team (catcher) in 1983. Miyataki is a 1985 graduate of the University of Hawaii with a BEd in Secondary Physical Education.
