Kallen Miyataki has been appointed University of Hawai'i at Hilo Head Baseball Coach, announced UH Hilo Interim Athletic Director Tim Moore.

"Kallen's experience in the Hilo community will prove valuable in the long-run in developing our baseball program," Moore said. "Coach Miyataki maintains impressive recruiting ties in Hawai`i, West Coast, and Alaska and is well respected in the collegiate baseball community".

This will be Miyataki's third fitting in a UH Hilo coach's uniform following a three-year period as the associate head coach (2004-06) and 14-year stint as assistant coach (1988-2001).

His coaching career began as an assistant at Moanaloa High School (HI) before a graduate assistant position at the University of Hawaii (1985-87) took Miyataki to the collegiate level. He served one year as an assistant coach (1988) before joining former University of Hawaii at Hilo Baseball Coach Joey Estrella's staff.

Coach Miyataki was a standout student athlete as Team Captain and most valuable player for the UH Hilo Baseball Team (catcher) in 1983. Miyataki is a 1985 graduate of the University of Hawaii with a BEd in Secondary Physical Education.
